Well House

This is our little well house (photo taken in the spring)

Here's a photo of it from the 1987...
You can see this was before the picket fence was installed to the side of it (separating it from the barn in the background)

I like it much better painted blue!

I've been putting off this post, thinking I'd get around to straightening it up to show before/after shots.
However, the summer days are getting away from me, and I have another post that I'm anxious to share... and this is where it all starts.

The inside is quite a disaster area- not structurally, just cluttered with toys & stuff.  We used it as a playhouse last summer, but I've added some items to store over the winter.  So excuse the mess!

<--- to the left of the window is a closet with a hole in the floor that the water pump is located under.

We keep it locked so that the kids don't have access.

We asked the previous owner why the electric heater was in there, and was told they just stored it there.  I'm worried it means things freeze up, but the winter was so mild last year that we didn't find out.

In the spring, there was a lot of rain, and there was water that reached the top of the hole in the cement.
There was a sump pump, but it was obviously broken.  So, we decided to address that last week.

This was the first time we looked down inside the hole (covered by the plywood near the bottom of the photo)

Pretty cool!

I'm not sure if this was originally the well, or some kind of cistern?  It's a round hole, approximately 5 or 6 feet wide.  The walls are made of stacked rock.

There's about an inch of mud in the bottom, and the pipe to our modern pump continues down.

So, Mike went and purchased a new sump pump.  But before installing it, he had another project he was looking forward to.  Go to this post for a hint :o)

More to come on that!
