Yard Sale Finds- April

Yard sale season has started!  On a rainy day last weekend, my mom & I went to one that was a fundraiser for a local wildlife sanctuary.  We had never been to this one before, and were worried it would be cancelled due to the rain.  But we headed over anyway, and we're SO happy we did- we found a bunch of great items!

Here are my finds...

This canister is going over on our coffee nook in the kitchen to hold packets of hot cocoa.



I loved the blue & yellow in the feathers of this chicken.

Next I found this fancy little cup that's on the left of the photo... It matches my canister set (bought years ago at a flea market in NYC).

For just 25 cents, I couldn't leave it behind!

The baskets were also just 25 cents each... I'm usually not big on baskets, but found these two that I think will come in handy.

This oval basket struck me as the perfect size for putting out
utensils at a BBQ or picnic.

This basket is hand-made.
It can hang on the doorknob or a wall hook.

For the outside, I saw these little garden markers.  

Sure, I could have made these myself... but for 10 cents, now I don't have to!  

Then there's the holiday decor... Halloween this time.  This pumpkin is made of metal and has a heavy duty hinged stand attached to the back.  It's about 20 inches tall and will be fun for decorating outside next October.

The next two finds I think I'm going to use in the master closet...

I've been on the hunt for pretty hooks, and these will fit right in.

I spent a total of $15, and had a fantastic time!

October Yard Sale Finds!

Just when I expect yard sale season to come to an end, we get some really good finds!

Here's what I brought home...

For the Dining Room:

I'm most excited about this one.  After a quick search, I found them selling for $20-$30.



It's not like I'm going to be selling any of them, but it's always fun to find out that something I liked is worth more than I paid for it!

Rummage Sale Finds

A church near our old house has an annual Rummage Sale.  Even though we now live kinda far from it, I still try to get there because they have such neat stuff!  (The old trunk that we found at the 2012 sale is still hard at work in my oldest's room!)

Here are my finds...

A Pewter Pitcher
Mike requested that I keep my eye out for some pewter items, since it goes so well with the time period of our house.  (I love having something to legitimately search for!)

 It's about 6 inches high (here it is standing next to a 5x7 frame, for perspective)   --->

Right now it's on my foyer table, I think I'll put some fresh cut flowers in it.




Then there was this pair of pewter candlesticks...














I placed them both in the family room for now- one between the two new chairs, and one on the piano.  They might be moving to the dining room though.

It was the last night of the sale, so they were doing "buy one, get one free" in the dish/serving-ware room.
The candlesticks were marked at $10/pair, the pitcher at $6, so I got all three pieces for $10!

Then we found this little vase:

Look at how well it goes with my Victorian chocolate set!  

I'm trying to remember, but I think I got this set at the rummage sale 5-10 years ago!  My mom recently gave me the mustache cup that's in the center front, along with the milk pitcher on the left.  I think they all look rather nice together in my china cabinet.

That got paired (for BOGO) with this hanging tea light candleholder:

I've hung it from a hook in the kitchen window since the amber/brown color matches in there.  It will likely move outside for entertaining company on summer evenings.

That pairing cost $4.

The last item I found was this wrought iron candle holder- probably will be placed outside on a barn? The candle dish & chain is quite Gothic looking, but the hook could also hold a hanging flower pot.  The set was $8.

So, I spent a total of $22 and had a blast!  I'm already looking forward to next year!

June Yard Sales

Yard sale season is in full swing and this year is even better because my mom is now living close enough to join us on these jaunts!  Mike jokingly calls her an enabler- ha ha!

Here are some of my recent finds:

Framed advertisement for stockings ($2)

I'm going to put this up in the master bedroom closet.  

I have some sets of unused old fashioned hosiery that I'll hang underneath. 

 

Pale green fruit bowl ($1)

I've already got this loaded with apples!

Brown Jug ($3)

It smells like Maple Syrup.  This is sitting on the bottom shelf of the bakers rack in the kitchen.  I like that it's dog proof decor (he's been doing quite a number chewing on the kitchen furniture! UGH!).

Old vanilla bottle ($2) & Old Phillips Milk of Magnesia bottle ($2)

  

I put these on the shelf in the kitchen.

Mason Jars ($2 each)

My mom had given me one of these, and the next day we found another at a sale! 

I have quite a few with the glass lids, but only these two with the old metal lids.

Travel suitcase ($4)

I'll use it for storage (cosmetics & things) either in a shelf in my closet, or sitting out next to my vanity.

I suppose I could also use it for medicine/band aid storage.  Hmmmm.... 

It has it's original tag & keys too!

October Yard Sales

Last weekend my mom & I hit a couple of yard sales.  I had lots of great little finds!

First is this pretty little dish with lavender flowers on it.  It's small (hard to tell size in this photo!)
I'm going to put it in my room for catching jewelry & loose change at the end of the day.

It was 50 cents!


In with the stacks of dishes, I found this round plate (in the back of the photo).  You can see how it matches the pitcher & bowl that I had bought years ago at an estate sale!
It was just 25 cents!

This really makes me want my butlers pantry.

Next I found a book for my oldest son.  He is very into the fact that our house was built between 1760-1790, during the time of the American Revolution.  I thought he'd enjoy this book filled with paintings from the time period.
It didn't have a price on it (I HATE when things don't have prices at a sale), but judging by the cheap prices on everything else, I took a chance... and it was only 50 cents :)

She also had some free children's books & I picked up a Peter Pan book.  It was in rough shape- but I thought maybe I'll eventually frame some of the pages as artwork.  No photo of it though because my youngest quickly commandeered it to his room!

Then I found this sweet little milk pitcher- in the yellow that I've been looking to use as an accent color in the family room.  It has a hairline crack, but since I'm just using it for decorative purposes, I didn't mind. And at just 50 cents, I couldn't pass it up!

And finally, to my favorite finds of the day!



First, a set of two small enamel pots.
They have measurement markings inside.

They were just a $1 each.

I don't know why I'm so drawn to enamelware lately!  I bought a cute little bucket Labor Day Weekend (and even put it to good use during my youngest's last birthday party!)

These two basins are kind of beat up, but I still love them!  I especially like the handles on the blue rimmed one.  These were just $1 each too!

I'm envisioning these on the shelves in the future laundry room or linen closets holding washcloths & hand towels.

"Rustic", right?  ha ha!

For now, I've put them on the wall going down the basement steps.  It's down below the stairwell area that we've finished, so this is where you step back into the 1700's era... and  I wasn't sure about sharing photos!

Can you believe I came home with all of that and I only spent $5.75!!!  So much fun!
