Master Bedroom Ceiling Done!

The drywall guys are out of here!  They've been super nice, but it's been a long haul.  We're ready to move back into our bedroom- as soon as the tub gets moved out of here!

They did some work on the walls too, which was really great of them.

As mentioned, we had quite a few guests arriving (and some staying overnight) for Thanksgiving.  I needed to get the bedrooms back into shape, but couldn't do that until we could get the master bedroom furniture moved out of the kids rooms.  Now we could get that started!

They have two days of work left in here... the third/finishing coat, and then sanding.

There were some cracks that developed (or got worse) as the construction proceeded, so they fixed those up too!

This was finally moving along- the rush was on to get it done so we could eat Thanksgiving dinner in there!

It's weird to see the amount of space without the old kitchen cabinets!  I am looking forward to figuring out where to put the dining room pieces (which walls to put the china cabinet, the liquor cabinet, the buffet).  But we're quite a ways off from that... we decided to do board & batten style walls in here, so the contractor will need to do that once drywalling is complete.  That'll hopefully be done in time for Christmas!

The old kitchen is getting transformed into a dining room... Demo is complete, and the sheetrocking started!

Two of the walls will be getting sheetrock on them as well.

After the water damage, and ripping down the ceiling, and then adding some framing for the new sheet rock, they've finally gotten started on sheetrocking the master bedroom ceiling!

Dining Room Demo- more stone walls

The plaster was in such bad shape on the old exterior wall, that we had to take it down.  Behind the plaster was more rock!  We just left it in place... they will sheetrock over it.

Framing was put around the pipes... they will get the same treatment as the pipes in the family room.

 We had to remove the top piece of the baseboard moulding.  The drywall guys got super thin sheetrock that they will put right over the plaster.  We'll then replace the top piece of moulding with a thinner one.

They need to patch the hole in the ceiling from where the cabinets were.

And they need to replace the section where the water damage was...

Due to the uneven wall/ceiling, they had to come up with a fix for the edge where the wall meets the ceiling.

I guess it will work- but I'm wondering what will be the best way to paint this so that it's least noticeable. The walls will be gray and the ceiling white- I'm afraid that whatever I do will draw the eye towards it.  We'll see!

Sheetrock- Day 11

They've finally got all the drywall up!  And they've started spackling parts of it- yippee!

First, here's how the pipes turned out...

Then there's the doorway that leads down into the basement...

Heading back upstairs... this is the doorway to the laundry room, off the main hallway.

And they got started up on the third floor stairwell...

When we got home, one guy was working upstairs and the other downstairs.  We politely asked if they'd mind concentrating the efforts on the first floor spackling first, and then move on to the other upstairs rooms (then we can then get the floor guys started in the kitchen and half bath!)

Happily, they were agreeable to that.  Should be three days of spackle downstairs, then sanding.

Covering Pipes

These were all still at "Sheetrock- Day 10", but I thought the issue warranted it's own post!

We weren't even thinking about the two radiator pipes that run up the wall in the family room.
Now that it will be a doorway right next to them, the contractor & drywall guy brought up the fact that they are much more accessible now than they were when they were just against the back wall.  This means that there's the higher possibility someone could get burned if they grab or even brush against them as they pass (they get SUPER hot).

Although we HATE boxing stuff in, we decided that was the best option here.

There was also significant progress closing in where the back window used to be...

I'm approximately a week behind in my posts... things are moving along!  The breaking news is that the cabinet installation has been scheduled for Oct. 27! (Our contractor told us he'd be ready for that October 19, but the 27th is the first date the cabinet installer had available.)  Now we're making the final countertop decisions and getting that scheduled for Oct 29th, as advised by the cabinet installer.

Rock Wall

There's a neat little plastic strip that goes on the drywall placed to right side of the rock wall.  They will spackle right up to the plastic bead, and then once it's all dry, they rip the plastic bead off and it gives a nice clean edge!
